Kalamazoo Defeats Trine 5-1

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University men's soccer team lost a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match at Kalamazoo Saturday evening 5-1.

The loss drops the Thunder to 6-7-1 on the season, and 1-2-1 in league action. Kalamazoo remains unbeaten in the MIAA at 4-0-0 and are 9-2-2 overall.

The Hornets got on the board immediately with a goal in the sixth minute. Goalkeeper Troy Saylor [Caledonia, Mich. / Caledonia] made saves on the next three shots taken by Kalamazoo.

Brian Morris [Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer] put the first shot on goal for Trine in the 33rd minute of action, but it was turned away.

The Hornets tacked on a second goal just before half in the 42nd minute.

Colin Nicoski [Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield East] got Trine on the board at the start of the second half with a goal off an assist from Alhasan Yahya [Melvindale, Mich. / Melvindale] in the 56th minute.

Less than 30 seconds later, Kalamazoo would answer and take a 3-1 lead.

The Hornets added two more to carry a 5-1 lead to full time. Kalamazoo outshot Trine 16-4 in the match. Saylor made seven saves overall.

Up next for the Thunder is Adrian College on Tuesday, October 19 at 4 pm. It is a home match and senior day for the Trine men. It is also Community Day, which means free entry to the event.
