Men's Soccer Advances to MIAA Semifinals in 4-0 Triumph over Albion

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over Albion College in the First Round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament on Saturday night. The number four seed Thunder advance to play the top seed, Calvin University, in the Semifinal Round on Wednesday, November 3.

Brian Morris [Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer] put the Thunder in front in the 12th minute of play with a goal from long distance on the right side of the pitch. The Thunder were on the attack to add on, as Tyler Murphy [Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central] accumulated three shots in the first 30 minutes of play.

Chippy play in both directions was evident with multiple fouls and three yellow cards distributed in the first period.

In the 42nd minute, Alhasan Yahya [Melvindale, Mich. / Melvindale] gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Murphy had his shot sent away by the Briton keeper, but Yahya was there for the rebound and score and provide a wave of momentum before intermission.

Connor Malmquist [Valparaiso, Ind. / Morgan Township] helped to pile it on in the 58th minute and create an insurmountable advantage.

In the 73rd minute, Alhusain Yahya [Melvindale, Mich. / Melvindale] converted off of a rebound as well. This time, it was a shot from the foot of Joey Donovan [Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley] that was deflected back into play and Yahya was there to count it.

Troy Saylor [Caledonia, Mich. / Caledonia] made four saves in his fourth shutout of the 2021 campaign. Murphy, who was named First Team All-Conference earlier in the day, led the team with four shots.
