Evan Komrska Tallies First Career MIAA Athlete of the Week Award

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Trine University men's soccer team saw freshman forward Evan Komrska win Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for his efforts in a pair of victories last week.

Komrska, a Fort Wayne, Indiana native and Canterbury High School graduate, sank two game-winning goals for the Thunder in victories against Bluffton University and Manchester University. Trine has now won five matches in a row and the offense is clicking on all cylinders nearly one month into the season. The team has scored an average of 2.6 goals per game during the unbeaten stretch.

The 2022 newcomer recorded the only goal in the 1-0 win against the Bluffton Beavers. In the 67th minute, Francesco Mazzei found Komrska for a strike that sailed passed the keeper and into the corner of the net for the score. Liam Zimmerman set up the forward for the opening goal of the 5-0 victory versus Manchester on Saturday.

These two scores are the first two of Komrska's collegiate career. He is one of three student-athletes with multiple goals so far this season. Komrska made his first career appearance in the starting lineup in the team's most recent match as well.

The Thunder are away for their matches this week, starting with a visit to DePauw University on Tuesday, September 20. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm.
