Bishops Beat Men's Soccer

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Trine University men's soccer team recorded their third loss of the season on the road against Ohio Wesleyan University by the score of 2-0.

The Bishops applied the early pressure in the contest, recording a trio of shots in the open two minutes. The first would force action from junior Aidan McGonagle just under a minute into the game.

Following the opening salvo, the game was quiet until the 11th minute of play when the Thunder received a free kick in the offensive zone. The ball would land in the goal area off that kick and freshman Gavin Hardy would use his head to put the ball on net, forcing a save from Ohio Wesleyan.

It was the last of the pressure for the team for the next 17 minutes of game time. The Bishops on the other hand continued to fire shots at and around the goal, until in the 28th minute they finally broke through the Trine defense and took a 1-0 lead.

Just a minute later, the Thunder had a strong chance to knot the game up at one. Junior Tyler Murphy had that chance, firing a shot on net and forcing another save from the home team's keeper.

The rest of the half would go slightly in favor of Ohio Wesleyan but the score would stay the same with Trine entering the intermission down just one goal.

Neither team could put their shots on target through the first 25 minutes of the second half. The first and only shot on goal during the period would come in the 75th minute of play, when the Bishops recorded their second goal of the game, moving the game to its final score of 2-0.

Four minutes after the goal, Murphy had another chance at a goal, this time his shot was blocked before reaching the keeper. It would be the team's final shot of the game.

The Thunder fall to 5-3 following the loss. They return to the pitch when they travel to face Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
