MIAA Names Tyler Murphy Athlete of the Week

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Senior forward Tyler Murphy of the Trine University men's soccer team has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week. It is the seventh time in his career that he has been tabbed MIAA Athlete of the Week and Murphy is the second Trine men's soccer student-athlete to be awarded by the conference in 2023.

Murphy scored one goal in each of the team's two victories on the week. The Thunder were winners 1-0 at Hope College on Tuesday and defeated Alma College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Trine men's soccer has now won four consecutive matches and are looking to secure the number two seed in the conference standings with a win at Adrian College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Murphy received a long pass from sophomore Liam Zimmerman in the team's first match that set him up for the match's only goal against the Flying Dutch. Murphy would use his speed once more to score the game's first goal against the Scots of Alma coming off a feed by sophomore Evan Komrska.

Murphy has now scored nine goals in 14 matches this season. He is already Trine's leading NCAA DIII era scorer with 44 career goals and is five goals away from tying the program's all-time record prior to joining the NCAA in 2004.
