THUNDER WIN FIRST MATCH FOLLOWING SPRING BREAK TRIP

ANGOLA, Ind. - After the men’s tennis team went 4-2 during their trip to South Carolina for spring break, they returned to Angola and defeated Indiana Tech 5-4. The Thunder are now 8-2 on the season.

The Thunder began the match by dropping two out of three doubles matches. The lone doubles win for the Thunder came from the third doubles team of Nick Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and junior David Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) as they won 8-2. Dan Desper (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and Joe Dunbar (Carmel, Ind./Blessed Theodore Guerin) lost at first doubles 8-4. The second doubles team of freshman Zach Richardson (Muncie, Ind./Delta) and freshman Joey Clark (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) also lost by a score of 8-3.

When the singles matches began, the Thunder fell into an even deeper hole when Dunbar lost at first singles 6-2, 6-3. With the pressure on, Desper won a tough match at second singles 6-4, 6-2. Murray then put together a marvelous display of tennis at third singles winning 6-3, 6-0. Clark won at fourth singles 6-2, 6-1. The match went even at 4-4 after Ihrie lost his fifth singles match 7-5, 6-2.

The deciding match for the Thunder was at sixth singles as Richardson won 6-1, 6-2 to secure the win for Trine.

The annual Alma-Trine Tennis Challenge is the Thunder’s next match at home on Saturday, March 17th.
