ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine's Caleb Knust its Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) won both his matches at no. 1 singles in straight sets and was also part of a crucial no. 1 doubles win last week. Knust earned a dominating 6-0, 6-0 singles victory and teamed up with Joe Dunbar (Indianapolis, Ind./Guerin Catholic) for an 8-5 doubles win to lead Trine past Calvin, 5-4. It was the first time the Thunder had defeated the Knights as a member of the MIAA. Knust also posted a 6-2, 6-0 singles victory against Albion. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the second-time this season and in his career.
Knust has been a dominant force for Trine this season in both singles and doubles play. He holds a 16-3 overall record in singles play, with all of those matches coming in the no. 1 court. The sophomore is 4-1 in MIAA matches. He has won five-consecutive singles matches, and 11 of his last 12.
Trine holds an 8-8 overall record, 1-4 in MIAA matches. The Thunder travel to Spring Arbor today for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
