ANDERSON, IND.-- The Trine men's tennis team picked up a dominating 8-1 non-conference victory over Anderson Thursday afternoon at Anderson University.
The Thunder took a 2-1 lead after doubles play behind wins at no. 1 by Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and Joe Dunbar (Indianapolis, Ind./Guerin Catholic), and at no. 3 by Joey Clark (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) and Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial). Knust and Dunbar combined for an 8-4 win. The duo have won their last three non-conference matches together. Clark and Gilbert played together for the second time this season and are 2-0 as a pairing.
Trine won all six singles matches. Knust, Gilbert, and Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) all earned dominating 6-0, 6-0 victories. Knust improved to 17-3 on the season and won his sixth consecutive singles match. Cassidy evened his record at 8-8, while Gilbert picked up his fourth victory.
Dunbar, Clark and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) also won in straight sets for the Thunder. Clark picked up his 10th-win of the season, while Dunbar evened his non-conference record at 6-6. Davis has won his last two singles matches.
Trine improved to 9-8 with the victory. Anderson falls to 3-4.
The Thunder return to MIAA-play when they host Alma next Tuesday, Apr. 22 to close the conference regular-season.
