Men's Tennis Opens with Victory

FRANKLIN, IND.-- The Trine men's tennis team opened their fall campaign with an 8-1 victory over Franklin Friday afternoon at Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.

The Thunder were led by two-time All-MIAA performer Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), who won 6-1, 6-1 in the no. 1 singles court. Knust also teamed with freshman Victor Flynn (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) for a doubles victory in the no. 1 court. Flynn was one of three Trine freshmen to pick up the first wins of their Thunder careers. Trine was due to have played another match against St. Joseph's, but that match was rained out. The Thunder open the season 1-0, while the Grizzlies are 0-1.

Flynn, Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind./Western) and Donald Zehner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) each earned the first singles wins of their Trine careers. Each player in the trio won in straight sets as the Thunder dominated in the no.'s 4-6 courts. Each freshman was also part of a winning doubles pair.

Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) also earned a singles win in straight sets. He teamed with Quinn to earn the victory at no. 2 doubles. Zehner and Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) accounted for Trine's final doubles victory.

Luke Snyder picked up the lone Grizzly victory at no. 3 singles.

Trine will return to action next Sunday, Sep. 14 when they face Indiana-East at noon.
