Knust Becomes Wins Leader as Thunder Beat Albion

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine's Caleb Knust became the school's all-time leader in singles wins as the men's tennis team defeated Albion, 8-1 in an MIAA match Wednesday afternoon.

Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) won 6-0, 6-4 to pick up his 45th career singles victory, the most on record in team history. Thunder men's tennis records date back to 1986. Knust passed previous wins leader Keith Keggereis (1993-96). The senior is 45-11 in his Trine career, including a 10-3 mark this year. Knust also paired with Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) for an 8-1 victory in the no. 1 doubles flight.

Cassidy, Joey Clark (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis), Brian Zehner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) all won in straight sets in singles play for Trine. Cassidy, Clark and Flynn each picked up their first singles victories in MIAA play this year. Clark and Flynn are each 6-3 over their last nine matches.

Quinn and Flynn added an 8-1 victory at no. 2 doubles, while Zehner teamed with Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) to earn the victory at no. 3 doubles. Zehner and Gilbert now have a 10-3 record when playing together this season, the most wins of any Trine doubles tandem.
