Thunder Drop Close Match at Alma

ALMA, Mich.-- The Trine men's tennis team fell to Alma, 5-4 in a tightly-contested MIAA match Thursday afternoon at the Superior Street Tennis Complex.

A pair of three-set victories by the Scots in singles matches earned a pair of big points for Alma in matches that could have gone either way. Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Brian Zehner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Joey Clark (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) all picked up singles wins for Trine. Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind./Western) and Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich,/Grosse Pointe South) combined for a doubles victory. Trine fell to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. Alma improved to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.

Knust improved to 12-3 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at no. 1 singles. Knust has won three-straight matches and is 4-1 in conference action. Clark earned 6-4, 6-0 victories in the no. 3 flight to improve to 8-3 on the season. Clark is 6-3 in the no. 2 court.

Zehner prevailed in the first set 6-2 before holding off his opponent with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Zehner is now tied for Trine's best mark in conference matches at 4-1. He is 9-5 overall.

Quinn/Flynn combined on the 8-4 victory in doubles play. The freshman duo picked up their third win together.

Trine concludes the regular-season tomorrow. The Thunder will host Adrian at 4 p.m.
