MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- The Trine men's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 7-2 victory over Bethel Thursday afternoon.
The Thunder won five singles matches, with Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind./Rockville), Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind./Western), Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este) picking up singles wins. The doubles pairings of Knust/Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Zach Richardson (Muncie, Ind./Delta)/Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) were also victorious. Trine has now started the season 3-0 for the second year in a row and the third time in the last four years.
Flynn turned in the most dominant singles victory of the day, winning by scores of 6-0, 6-1. The sophomore has won each of his first two matches of the season. Quinn picked up his 10th-career victory, 6-2, 6-3.
Knust extended his school-record of singles victories to 51 with a 6-3, 6-1 in the no. 1 flight. Baysinger and Couch's victories were each player's second in a row.
Knust and Cassidy combined to blank their opponent by an 8-0 final in the no. 1 doubles court. The duo is now 12-4 as a pairing in their collegiate careers.
Trusty and Richardson rounded out the Trine winners at no. 3 doubles. The duo evened its record at 1-1 with an 8-6 victory.
Trine will compete in the ITA Central Regional in Saint Louis, Mo. The tournament begins Friday, Sept. 25.
