Men's Tennis Sees Success at Saint Louis ITA

ST. LOUIS, Mo.-- Members of the Trine men's tennis team competed in the 2015 USTA/ITA Men's Small College Central Regional Tennis Championships, hosted by Washington University.

Caleb Knust's (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) performance highlighted day one of the event for the Thunder, as the senior won both of his matches. In his first match, Knust defeated Allen Vinson of Kalamazoo College in his first match of the day. After dropping his first set, Knust came back to win the second, 7-5 before taking home the tiebreaker.

In his second match of the day, Knust disposed of Oberlin College's Callan Louis by a 6-3, 6-1 score. With the two wins, Knust advanced to the round of 32 of the Men's Open division. He will continue play today with a match against Sven Kranz of the University of Chicago.

Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) is still alive in the consolation bracket of the Men's Collegiate Singles division. The sophomore dropped his first match of the day to DePauw University's Matthew Quammen, but recovered to defeat Blake Gocey of Greenville (Ill.), 6-2, 6-2.

Flynn received a bye in the next round and will face Adrian College's Brandon Brom with the opportunity to advance today.

Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind./Western) also recovered from losing his first match of the day to stay alive in the consolation bracket of the Men's Collegiate Singles division. Quinn needed to go the distance for a three-set victory, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 to defeat Victor Krueger of North Central College.

Quinn also received a bye in the ensuing round to advance to today's matches. He will face Oberlin College's Jeremy Lichtmacher.

Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) also competed in the event, but was eliminated after two matches. Both Trine doubles pairings were also eliminated in the opening two rounds.
