Thunder Defeat Huntington for First Spring Win

HUNTINGTON, Ind.-- The Trine men's tennis team defeated Huntington 7-2 to earn its first win of the spring season Monday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts.

The Thunder held a 5-2 advantage in contested matches, picking up the final two points by default. Trine swept doubles play, paced by the No. 1 pairing of Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western). The two players made their debuts as Trine's top pairing and found success, earning a tough 8-6 victory. The two players have won three matches as a pairing this year.

Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold) and Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) combined on the no. 2 doubles victory. An 8-3 victory put the Thunder up 2-0 in the match. Cassidy and Trusty were playing in their first match as a pairing.

Quinn and Flynn carried their strong doubles performance into their respective matches in singles play. Quinn earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the no. 3 flight to pick up his third win of the 2015-16 campaign. Flynn added another victory in straight sets, taking his match by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Flynn has won both of his matches at no. 4 singles this year.

Trusty rounded out Trine's winners in singles play. The freshman won by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Trusty has shown promise in his first collegiate campaign, winning three of his first four matches this year.

With the win, the Thunder improved to 4-2 on the year. Huntington fell to 4-13 overall.

Trine travels to Bethel (Ind.) tomorrow for its second-consecutive match against a NAIA foe. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
