Thunder Drop Home-Opener to Wittenberg

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Wittenberg spoiled Trine's debut in Ryan Tennis Center by dealing the Thunder a 6-3 loss in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.

Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) each remained unbeaten on the season with singles victories. Gilbert dropped the first set before rallying back to tie things up 7-6 in set two. He went on to win the tiebreak, 10-8. Gilbert has marked his return to the Thunder with two-straight wins to start the year.

Couch also needed a tiebreak to earn his victory. After taking the first set 6-2, his opponent evened things up. Couch was able to prevail 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Both of Couch's wins this season have come in the tiebreak scenario.

Couch also paired with freshman Sam Luke (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) on Trine's doubles victory. The victory gave Luke a win in his first career varsity doubles assignment. The duo won by an 8-6 final.
