Men's Tennis Victorious in Final Fall Match

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over Ohio Northern in the team's final match of the fall Saturday at Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

The Thunder won all singles matches on its way to wrapping up the fall with a 3-2 record in match play. Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) moved up to No. 3 singles in today's match and was rewarded for his efforts with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Quinn's victory extended his winning-streak to three matches. His four singles wins are tied for the team lead.

Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) was victorious at No. 5 singles to match Quinn with a team-best four wins in singles play. Couch's wins came by scores of 6-3, 6-1.

Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) each permitted their opponent to win just a single point in their two-set victories. Gilbert improved to 3-2 on the year, while Trusty picked up his first victory of the fall.

Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) earned a tough 7-5 victory in his first set before prevailing 6-1 to take home the final singles victory of the day. Davis' win came in his first action of the 2016-17 season.

Gilbert and Trusty also paired on an 8-2 victory in doubles play. Couch and Sam Luke (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) added an 8-5 victory. Couch and Luke own a 3-1 record in doubles play.

Today's event was the final team match of the fall for the Thunder. Individuals will compete in the upcoming ITA Central Region Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. Sep. 23-25.
