Flynn, Quinn see Success in ITA Central Region Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Trine's Victor Flynn and Judson Quinn turned in a successful performance in a tough field of competition at the ITA Central Region Championships.

Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) advanced to day two of the competition with a singles victory Friday. He opened play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Phillip Gruber of Case Western Reserve before rallying back to take his second match of the day. In the consolation draw, Flynn defeated Sebatstian Culton of Fontbonne, 6-3, 6-3.

On day two, Flynn drew a tough task in matching up with No. 9 seed Jason Haugen of Washington University (Mo.). The junior battled tough, but fell by 6-2, 6-1 scores. Flynn, normally the No. 2 singles player for the Thunder, finished his weekend 1-2 in a field featuring the top 128 singles players in the Central Region.

Flynn also teamed up with Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) to earn a doubles victory and advance to day two of the doubles draw. The duo bested North Central's pairing of Aleksandar Vasic and Wilbur Williams, 8-2 to advance. Flynn and Quinn received a matchup featuring Haguen and Konrad Kozlowski from Washington (Mo.) in round two, and were eliminated with an 8-3 loss.

Trine's Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) also competed in the Central Region Championships. The senior was eliminated from the tournament by No. 25 seed Dane Paulsen.

The performance in the Central Region Championships wrapped up the fall season for Trine's men's tennis players. The spring season opens with four matches in Orlando, Fla. March 13-17.
