Men's Tennis Blanks Transylvania in Spring Opener

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Trine men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Transylvania Monday afternoon at Oak Street Park.

Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 for the most dominating performance of the day for the Thunder. The senior picked up his second win of the season in singles play.

Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) held his opponent to a single point in picking up the No. 3 singles win, 6-0, 6-1. Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) added a victory by 6-1, 6-1 scores in the No. 2 flight. Quinn is now a team-best 5-1 on the year. Flynn and Quinn also combined on the victory as Trine's top doubles pairing. The duo blanked their counterparts, 8-0.

Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. /  Snider) each earned singles victories and combined on a doubles win as well. Gilbert won by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Davis improved to 2-0 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. The seniors were victories at No. 3 doubles in dominating 8-0 fashion.

Blake Trusty (Fremont, Mich. / Fremont) rounded out singles winners for the Thunder. Trusty won by scores of 6-2, 6-0. He also combined with Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) on an 8-2 victory as the no. 2 doubles pairing. Weiss contributed to the victory in his first varsity match for Trine.

The Thunder improved to 4-2 and has a three-match winning streak dating back to the fall. Transylvania fell to 0-3.

Trine returns to action tomorrow when the Thunder face Berry College at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
