Men's Tennis Sweeps Heidelberg

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team swept Heidelberg, 9-0, in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

Four Thunder earned victories in both singles and doubles play. Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) started things off in doubles play with a quick 8-1 win in the no. 1 court. The duo has now combined for a team-high eight doubles victories. Quinn and Flynn have won their last four matches.

Flynn carried his success into no. 3 singles, where he won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Quinn earned the victory at no. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) combined with Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) on an 8-0 win at no. 3 doubles. Gilbert closed out his day with a win at no. 1 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) rounded out Trine players to earn wins in singles and doubles play. Trusty teamed with Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) on the 8-2 victory at no. 2 doubles. The duo has provided a spark in doubles play for the Thunder with five wins in six matches, including four in a row. Trusty also blanked his opponent in no. 6 singles play, 6-0, 6-0.

Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) rounded out the success in singles play with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. Baysinger has now won three conseuctive singles matches, while Davis improved to 5-2 on the year.

Trine improved to 6-5 overall and won its second consecutive match. Heidelberg fell to 1-6.

The Thunder wrap up the non-conference portion of its scheduled with a home match against St. Francis (Ind.) tomorrow at 4 p.m.
