ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team earned its second consecutive sweep, blanking St. Francis, 9-0 in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
The Thunder started things off with three tough doubles victories. Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) started things off with a comeback 8-6 victory at no. 1 doubles. Flynn and Quinn extended their winning-streak to five matches with the victory.
Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) and Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) also extended their winning-streak to five matches. The duo won 8-5 at no. 2 doubles. Trusty and Weiss are now 6-1 as a pairing this year.
Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) rounded out the doubles winners. Gilbert and Couch extended their winning streak to three, 8-5.
Gilbert, Flynn, Quinn and Trusty all added singles victories. Trusty, Quinn and Flynn each extended their winning-streaks to three, while Gilbert picked up his second win in a row. Flynn and Quinn are tied for the team lead with eight wins apiece.
Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) rounded out the winners in singles play. Baysinger extended his team-best winning streak to four matches with the win at no. 4 singles. Davis won his third straight match at no. 5 singles.
Trine improved its record to 7-5 and extended its winning streak to three. The Thunder swept both of its opponents this weekend and have outscored its opponents 26-1 over the last three matches. St. Francis fell to 1-12 on the year.
Trine opens MIAA play at home against defending conference champion Kalamazoo Saturday, Apr. 1. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
