Men's Tennis Defeats Alma

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team defeated Alma, 7-2, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match Friday afternoon at Ryan Tennis Center.

The Thunder got things started with a pair of doubles victories. Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) earnd the first win of the day at no. 3 doubles, 8-6. Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) followed with an 8-5 victory to put Trine up 2-1 after doubles play.

Flynn and Quinn each added wins in singles play as the Thunder took five singles matches. Flynn extended his winning streak to four matches with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. He is 4-1 in MIAA matches. Quinn returned to the win column and earned his 10th victory of the season, 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) added singles victories in the no. 4 and 5 courts respectively. Baysinger reached double-digit victories for the first time in his career with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win. Davis earned a tight 7-5 win in the first set before a convincing 6-0 win put his opponent away. Both players improved to 3-2 in MIAA matches.

Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) rounded out the singles victories with the win in the no. 6 court. The sophomore earned his win by scores of 6-2, 6-2. He evened his MIAA mark at 2-2.

The Thunder improved to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The team sits in fifth place in the MIAA with two matches remaining. Alma fell to 5-10 overall, 1-4 in the MIAA.

Trine plays its last home match of the season Wednesday, Apr. 19 when the Thunder play host to Hope. First serve on Senior Day is scheduled for 4 p.m.
