Thunder Close Season with Sweep of Olivet

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Trine men's tennis team closed out its season with a 9-0 sweep of Olivet in a MIAA match Sunday afternoon at Battle Creek Harper Creek High School.

The Thunder swept through doubles play without allowing a point in any of the three matches. Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) earned their team-leading 12th doubles victory, 8-0, in the No. 1 doubles court. Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) and Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) earned the shutout at No. 2 doubles, while Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) added the 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Flynn, Quinn, Trusty and Gilbert each carried their success over into singles play. Trusty did not allow his opponent to earn a point in his 6-0, 6-0 win. Flynn earned his team-leading 13th singles win of the year, while Quinn closed out the year with an 11-8 record.

Gilbert was one of three Trine seniors to pick up a singles win in the final match of their careers. GIlbert earned his win, 6-0, 6-1. He performed as the No. 1 singles option for the Thunder throughout the year.

Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) and Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) each wrapped up career-best seasons with their final victories. Davis won his match by scores of 6-0, 6-0 to reach double-digit victories for the first time. He concluded the season 10-5. Baysinger won his match by scores of 6-0, 6-1 to close out the year 11-7.

Trine closed out the season with a 10-9 overall record and 3-4 in the MIAA. The Thunder placed fifth in the conference. Olivet fell to 0-15 overall, 0-6 in the MIAA.
