Men's Tennis Open Season with 8-1 Victory

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team started the season right defeating visiting Alma College by the score of 8-1.

The Thunder picked up an early lead taking all three of the doubles matches in the contest. The team of juniors Jacob Weiss (Richmond / Richmond) and Jordan Baker (Salem / Salem) took home a tidy 8-2 win in the No. 2 match. In both the No. 1 and No. 3 matches the Thunder defeated the Scots by the score of 8-4. Brothers senior Blake (Fremont / Fremont) and freshman Evan Trusty (Fremont / Fremont) took home the No. 1 win, while sophomore Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg / Scottsburg) and freshman Jaxon Davis (Angola / Angola) took the No. 3 match.

Trine continued to roll in the singles portion of the competition only dropping the No. 1 match to finish off the 8-1 victory. The pair of freshman, Davis and Evan Trusty, took the No. 3 and No. 5 matches with scores of 6-1, 6-1. Weiss took the No. 2 match by scores of 6-1, 6-4 while  Everitt took the No. 4 match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Junior Austin Balos (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) finished off the victory with a win in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-0, 6-1.

The Thunder will next take the courts when they travel to face Manchester on Monday, Sept. 10. First serves is scheduled for 4 p.m.
