Men's Tennis Defeats Spartans

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team picked up their second victory of the season by defeating host Manchester University by the score of 8-1.

The Thunder picked up their lone loss of the match in the doubles portion of the competition but still came away with a lead picking up the other two matches. In the No.2 match, juniors Jacob Weiss (Richmond / Richmond) and Jordan Baker (Salem / Salem) picked up the first win for the Thunder 8-4. Sophomore Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg / Scottsburg) and freshman Jaxon Davis (Angola / Angola) came away with the No. 3 match victory by the score of 8-2.

Trine finished off the match by sweeping the singles matches in the contest. Senior Blake Trusty (Fremont / Fremont) came away with the No. 1 match with scores of 6-0, 6-2, while Davis took the No. 3 match with scores of 6-3, 6-2. Everitt took the No. 4 match with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and freshman Evan Trusty (Fremont / Fremont) came away with the 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 5 match. Junior Austin Balos (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) came away with the victory in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-2, 6-1.

The last Thunder victory came from the No.2 match and Weiss who needed a super tiebreaker to finish off the contest with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Trine improves to 2-0 with the victory. Their next competition will take place on Thursday, September 13 when they travel to face Bethel (Ind.) with the match set to start at 3 p.m.
