Thunder Takes Down Britons

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team returned home with their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) victory of the season after defeating host Albion College by the score of 6-3.

Trine started the contest strong picking up two of the three doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead. In the No. 2 match, the team of juniors Jordan Baker (Salem, Ind. / Salem) and Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) picked up the win 8-4. Freshman Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and sophomore Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) came away with a No. 3 match victory by the score of 8-5.

The Thunder picked up four more wins in the singles portion of the dual to come away with the 6-3 win. Weiss came up with the most lopsided win of the night defeating his opponent in the No. 2 match in straight sets. Everitt also came away with a convincing victory with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Baker needed a tiebreaker but took the No. 6 match with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).

The final win for Trine came from freshman Evan Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) who took the No. 5 singles match with scores of 6-3, 6-2.

Trine improves to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA following the victory. They will continue their season when they host Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 6. The dual match is set to start at 1 p.m.
