Men's Tennis Starts Season with Victory

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team finished their first match of the season with a victory, as they defeated visiting Manchester University 8-1.

The Thunder started the season right picking up all three of the doubles matches in the contest. In the most exciting match of the contest's first half, the No. 1 team from Trine of senior Sid Petersen (Crown Pointe, Ind. / Bellmont) and sophomore Evan Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) came up with the 8-6 come from behind victory over their opponents. The No. 2 team of senior Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) and freshman Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) came up with an 8-1 victory. Junior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) picked up the final doubles match by the score of 8-2.

Trine finished off the victory by cruising to five more victories during the singles portion of the evening. Streit in the No. 3 match, Everitt in the No. 4 match and senior Jordan Baker (Salem, Ind. / Salem) in the No. 6 match each won with scores of 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) in the No. 5 match and Weiss in the No. 2 match picked up their wins in straight points, 6-0, 6-0.

The Thunder start the season 1-0 following the 8-1 victory. They will continue the fall portion of their season when they travel to face Bethel (Ind.) University tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 5. The match is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
