Men's Tennis Picks Up Second Win of Season

GRANGER, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team picked up their second victory of the season over hosts Bethel (Ind.) University by the score of 6-1.

The match was played under new NAIA rules which award one point for the doubles portion of the match. The Thunder earned that point by taking two of the three doubles contests. In the No. 2 match senior Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) teamed up with freshman Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) to pick up the victory 6-3. In the No. 3 match junior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) came away with the win by the score of 6-4.

In the singles portion of the competition, Trine picked up five of six matches to come away with the 6-1 victory. In the No. 2 match, Weiss picked up his second win of the afternoon with scores of 6-1, 7-5. Streit joined him by taking the No. 3 match with scores of 7-5, 6-4. Everitt picked up a win in the No. 4 match in nailbiting fashion winning with scores of 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.

Freshman Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) made the most of his night winning the No. 5 singles match with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Senior Jordan Baker (Salem, Ind. / Salem) did the same in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-3, 6-4.

With the victory, Trine improves to 2-0 on the season. The team will take the courts again on Thursday, Sept. 12 when they travel to face Spring Arbor University for a 4 p.m. contest.
