ANGOLA, Ind. – Senior Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's tennis Athlete of the Week.
It is the second time in his career and the first time this season that Weiss has received the award.
Weiss finished the first week of competition with a perfect 4-0 record while competing in No. 2 singles and doubles matches.
Trine began their season with a decisive 8-1 victory over visiting Manchester University. Weiss and partner freshman Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) came away with an 8-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Weiss would go on to take his singles match with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Thunder picked up their second victory later in the weak with a 6-1 victory over Bethel (Ind.) University. Weiss and Streit helped the team earn a point from the doubles portion of the event taking their match 6-3. He then came up with another win in the singles portion of the event with scores of 6-1, 7-5.
