Men's Tennis Comeback Not Enough

MARSHALL, Mich. -- The Trine University men's tennis team picked up three of six singles matches but was unable to cover the deficit and fell in the match 5-4 to hosts Olivet College.

The Thunder fell behind early dropping two of the doubles matches in the contest. The team's lone victory came from the No. 3 team of sophomores Eric Gaby (Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield) and Mitch Rose (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth). The No. 1 pairing of sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and freshman Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) came up just short of a win of their own losing in a tiebreaker by the score of 8-7 (7-3).

Three Thunder came up with wins in the singles portion of the contest. Streit picked up his first win of the season with the scores of 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. Smith came away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 match, while sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) made the most of his lone appearance on the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 6 match.

The Thunder are scheduled to face off with Calvin University on Friday, Sept. 18. The road contest is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
