ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team finish the fall season with an 8-1 victory over Bethel University.
The Thunder took all three doubles matches to lead 3-0 heading into the singles portion of the day. Junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) took the No. 1 match 8-3. In the No. 2 match senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) came up with an 8-5 win. Then in the No. 3 match junior Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) and freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) came up with an 8-3 win.
The team then took five of six matches in the singles portion of the match to win 8-1. Goodman took the No. 1 match 6-4, 6-1 with Streit taking the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 match Smith needed a tiebreaker but came up with the victory 7-6, 5-7, 10-6. The same was true of the No. 5 match where Dixon came up with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 win. Morris finished off the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 6 match.
Trine improves to 3-2 following the victory. The dual is the final team event of the fall, but individuals will represent the Thunder at the 2021 ITA Central Regional Championships starting on Friday, Oct. 1.
