Men's Tennis Tames Bulldogs

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team picked up their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) victory of the season, defeating visiting Adrian College 8-1.

The Thunder started the day sweeping the doubles portion of the contest. Senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) combined for the largest victory of the first portion of the match winning 8-1 in the No. 3 match.  Freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and junior Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) picked up the second win in the No. 1 match by the score of 8-4. The team of junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) won a hotly contest No. 2 match by the score of 8-6.

The team pulled away during the singles portion of the contest winning five of six matches to finish the day with the 8-1 victory. Dixon in the No. 4 match and Morris in the No. 6 match would each post lopsided victories by the score of 6-0, 6-1. Smith would take home the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-4 and Goodman took the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-2.

The closest match of the second half of the contest belonged to Streit who would force a super tiebreaker in the No. 2 match after dropping the first set. He finished off with a 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory.

The team improves to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play following the win. They will continue their season tomorrow, Sunday, April 3 when they travel to face Alma College for a 2 p.m. match.
