Men’s Tennis Sweeps Alma

ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team traveled to face Alma College in their third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season, returning home with a lopsided 9-0 victory.

The team started with two convincing wins in the doubles portion of the game, quickly taking a 2-0 lead in the dual. Freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) in the No. 1 match along with senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) in the No. 3 match each picked up 8-1 victories.

The final match in the No. 2 doubles took a bit more time, but junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) would still come up with the win by the score of 8-6.

The team continued their roll in the singles portion of the day finishing off the 9-0 sweep. Goodman in the No. 1 match (6-1, 6-0) and Dixon in the No. 4 match (6-0, 6-1) each dropped just one point on their way to victory. Streit would finish the No. 2 match with a 6-3, 6-2 win and Davis would win the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-4. Smith won the No. 5 match 6-0, 6-3 and Morris finished off the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

The Thunder improve to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in MIAA play following the victory. They will continue their season when they host Albion College on Saturday, April 9 for an 11 a.m.
