Flying Dutch Too Much For Men’s Tennis

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team faced off with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponent Hope College and came up short falling 8-1.

The trouble started early for the Thunder as they would struggle from the start, falling in all three doubles matches to the Flying Dutch, who remain undefeated in MIAA play.

Trine turned it around in the singles portion of the contest, forcing a super tiebreaker in four of the six matches. Freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) would take the first set in the No. 1 match before falling in both the second and the tiebreaker with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 5-10. Junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) would drop the No. 2 match's first set, but forced the tiebreaker with a win in the second, but fell as well with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 7-10. Senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) would also win his second set in the No. 3 match, but fall in a tiebreaker 0-6, 6-4, 6-10.

The Thunder's lone point in the dual would also come in a tiebreaker match, the No. 5 singles where sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) would win with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 10-3.

The team falls to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play following the loss. They will finish the home portion of their season on Saturday, April 16 when they host Calvin University. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
