Men's Tennis Fends Off Knights

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponent Calvin University by the score of 7-2 in their final home dual of the season.

The contest started with three close doubles competitions, which would all go in favor of the Thunder to give them a 3-0 lead. The team of freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and junior Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) would take the No. 1 match 8-4, the largest margin of victory for the day. Junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) would take the No. 2 match 8-5 and senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) would win the No. 3 match 8-6.

Streit would pick up the first win of the singles portion of the contest winning a hard-fought No. 2 match with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Then the team would secure the dual winning the final three matches of the day. Dixon took the No. 4 match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Smith won the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-1 and Morris won the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-3.

Trine improves to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in MIAA play following the win. They will finish off the regular season when they travel to face Olivet College on Saturday, April 23. The dual is scheduled to begin at noon.
