Goodman Named MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Cole Goodman of the Trine University men's tennis team has been named Athlete of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). It is the second time in his career that he has earned the honor.

The Thunder began their season with a 3-0 week. They defeated Manchester University 9-0 in their first match on Thursday, Sept. 8 and then picked up a pair on Saturday with a 8-1 win over Franklin College and a 7-2 win over Webster University.

Goodman went a perfect 6-0 during the stretch while competing as the team's No. 1 in both singles and doubles matches.

Against both Manchester and Franklin, he made quick work of his singles match winning 6-1, 6-0 both times. Then against a tough Webster opponent he came away with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory to remain unbeaten.

In singles, Goodman and partner Drew Dixon faced increasing difficulty through the week. Against Manchester they won 8-2 and against Franklin they came away with an 8-4 victory. Against Webster the team secured a crucial point in a highly contested 8-7 (9-7) victory.

The team will continue their season when they travel to the Hope College Invite beginning on Friday, Sept. 16.
