ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Three members of the Trine University men's tennis team traveled to compete in the 2022 ITA Central Regional Championship, with all three picking up a win.
Sophomore Cole Goodman would be the highlight of the weekend, securing opening round wins in both singles and doubles competitions. During singles play he picked up a win over Earlham College with scores of 6-3, 6-7(4-7), 6-2, before dropping his second match to Allegheny College, 6-1, 6-4.
Then in doubles, Goodman teamed up with senior Drew Dixon to win their opening match against Illinois Wesleyan 8-4. They dropped out in the next round after a loss to the University of Chicago by the score of 8-1.
Freshman Elijah Schilthuis dropped his opening single match to Allegheny College, 6-1, 6-2, but followed up with a hard-fought win over Hanover College in the consolation bracket with scores of 5-7, 7-6(7-4), 10-7. He would drop out of the consolation bracket with a loss to Millikin University 1-6, 0-6.
The event marks the end of the fall portion of the team's schedule. They will return to the courts in March when they travel to Orlando, Fla. for their spring break trip.
