Men's Tennis Tames Monarchs

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team defeated King's (Pa.) College in dominating 9-0 fashion to open their spring break trip on a high note. The match was played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

The Thunder opened the day by taking all three doubles matches. In the closest match of the day, the No. 1 team of freshman Andrew Spirrison and senior Aaron Streit won by the score of 8-4. The final two doubles matches both ended in 8-1 victories for Trine. In the No. 2 match sophomore Cole Goodman and senior Drew Dixon won while freshmen Elijah Schilthuis and Nicholas Jen took the No. 3 match.

Spirrison faced the strongest competition for a second time in the No. 1 singles match where he won 6-4, 6-1. Goodman took the No. 2 match 6-3, 6-0 and Schilthuis won the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-2. Streit in the No. 4 match and sophomore Caleb Morris in the No. 6 match both posted 6-1, 6-1 wins. Dixon finished off the day in the No. 5 match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Trine improves to 5-0 following the win. They will take the courts again tomorrow, Tuesday, March 7, when they face the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
