Men's Tennis Doubles-up Fightin' Engineers

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Trine University took five of the singles matches in the contest to secure a come from behind 6-3 victory over their hosts from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The Fightin' Engineers took an early lead in the contest, winning the first two doubles matches of the day. The No. 3 match became a marathon with the team of freshmen Elijah Schilthuis and Nicholas Jen outlasting their opponents to pick up the first team point of the dual for the Thunder with a score of 8-7 (10-8).

Freshman Andrew Spirrison started the comeback for the team in the No. 1 singles match where he picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory for Trine. Schilthuis became the lone member of the team to finish the day 2-0 when he won the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1. Senior Aaron Streit battled through the closest of the singles matches with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 4 match.

Senior Drew Dixon would take the secure the team victory in the No. 5 match where he came up with a 6-4, 6-3 win before sophomore Caleb Morris finished off the dual with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 6 match.

The Thunder improve to 7-3 following the win. They will next take the courts for a varsity contest when they travel to face Albion College in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) of the season on Saturday, March 25. The dual is set to begin at 2 p.m.
