CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team finished their regular season with a trip to face Wabash College, but came up short of the Little Giants by the score of 8-1.
The Thunder took their lone match of the day during the doubles portion of the contest. The team of freshman Andrew Spirrison and senior Aaron Streit got the win in the No. 1 match by the score of 8-2. The freshman duo of Nicholas Jen and Elijah Schilthuis came close to a second in the No. 3 match but fell 5-8.
A pair of Trine student-athletes forced super tiebreakers during the single portions of the day, but both came up short. Schilthuis lost the first set convincingly in No. 3 singles, but won a battle in the second set to force the tiebreaker before losing the match with scores of 0-6, 7-5, 7-10. Senior Drew Dixon would win his first set before falling in the second and tiebreaker with scores of 6-1, 4-6, 4-10.
The Thunder finish the regular season 10-7 overall. They currently await confirmation of their opponent for the opening round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament. The match will occur on Thursday, April 27 and will be on the road.
