Thunder Bow Out of MIAA Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The top-seeded and nationally ranked team from Kalamazoo College was too much for the Trine University men's tennis team handing them a final 5-1 defeat in the opening round of the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament.

The match began with three wins for the Hornets during the doubles portion of the contest. Senior Drew Dixon and sophomore Cole Goodman in the No. 2 match and freshmen Nicholas Jen and Elijah Schilthuis in the No. 3 match each had good performances falling by the score of 4-8.

Sophomore Caleb Morris picked up the lone win for the Trine in the No. 6 singles match. In the first match to finish during the singles portion of the day, he won with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Unfortunately, the match ended early after the next two singles contests went to the Hornets giving them the five points they needed to win the day.

The Thunder finish their season 10-8 overall after going 3-3 in MIAA play to earn the fourth-seed in the tournament. It is the third straight season that the team has recorded double-digit win totals and the fourth time head coach Erin Kolar has achieved the feat.
