Men's Tennis Defeats Manchester 9-0

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University won the first dual of their season with a sweep over their hosts from Manchester University with a final score of 9-0.

Freshman Sammy Yin and sophomore Andrew Spirrison secured the first win of the evening with an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. Just behind them finishing with an 8-2 victory was the No. 2 team of Drew Dixon and Cole Goodman with Nicholas Jen and Evan Nay taking the No. 3 match 8-3.

Dixon in the No. 6 match and Goodman at No. 2 both swept their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, to finish the day undefeated. Yin came in just behind the pair with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match. Spirrison took the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 before sophomore Elijah Schilthuis and junior Caleb Morris each won their matches, at No. 4 and 5 respectively, with scores of 6-2, 6-0.

The Thunder are set to continue their season with a pair of matches hosted by Franklin College on Saturday, September 9. They begin the day at 10 a.m. with a match against their hosts before facing off with Webster University at 1:30 p.m.
