KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A delegation from the Trine University men's tennis team traveled to the 2023 ITA Regional Championships after a solid performance.
A pair of Thunder competed as individuals, and both picked up victories at the event. Freshman Sammy Yin received a bye to start the tournament and then picked up a lopsided 6-0, 6-2 victory to advance to the round of 32. There he fell in a tightly contested match with scores of 3-6, 5-7. Junior Cole Goodman took his opening match with scores of 6-1, 6-2 before dropping out with a 3-6, 1-6 loss in the round of 64.
Yin was joined by sophomore Andrew Spirrison for the doubles bracket. The pair won their first two matches to advance all the way to the round of 16. Their first win was by the score of 8-4 and the second was 8-6. They fell 3-8 in the round of 16.
The competition marks the conclusion of the fall portion of the team's schedule. They will return to action in March when they travel to Orlando, Fla. for their spring break trip.
