TRINE MEN WIN FINAL INDOOR INVITATIONAL

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University indoor track and field teams wrapped up their final home meet of the season on February 17, with outstanding performances as the men took home the win while the women placed fourth.

At the third Trine University Indoor Invitational, the Thunder men’s program easily won the meet with 142 points over second place Albion who had 99. On the ladies side, Trine finished fourth with 79.5 points as Adrian won with 144.5. Trine was just seven points behind Albion who finished with 85 points.

The men’s team turned in six total wins, including picking up the top two finishes in both the mile and 400m runs. In the mile, junior Corbin Buckler (Marion, Ind./Eastbrook) took home the win in 4:34.51 while sophomore Michael Hammond (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) finished just behind in second. In the 400, freshman Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton Kellogg) won the event with a time of 50.88 as junior Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) finished second in a time of 52.02. Senior Kent Biller (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) finishes second in the 200m with a time of 23.63. Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville), a sophomore, placed third in the 800m completing in a time of 2:03.06.

In the 3,000m, junior Matt Burgess (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) won the even with a time of 9:04.06. Trine nearly swept the relays, as they won the 4x200 and 4x400 relays in times of 1:33.62 and 3:28.93 respectively. The Thunder narrowly missed the sweep as they finished second in the 4,000m distance medley relay with a time of 11:40.48.

The Thunder’s lone win in the field events came from junior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) in the shot put with a distance of 15.14m. Nate Grigsby (Royal Center, Ind./Pioneer), a freshman, finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.50m while senior Andrew Stein (Lindenhurt, Ill./Lakes Community) placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.06m

On the women’s side, the top performance came from the 4x400 relay as they raced to victory with a time of 4:14.33. The 4x200 relay also turned in a solid effort finishing third in a time of 1:54.86.

In the 800m race, freshman Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) and junior Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) took home second and third place with times of 2:23.21 and 2:25.41. In the mile run, junior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) finished runner-up with a time of 5:38.45.

Freshman Erika Rockwell (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) turned in the top performance in the field events, finishing third in the shot put with a distance of 11.47m. In the pole vault, sophomore Katie Finch (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) cleared a height of 2.74m to finish fourth. Junior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.25m.

Trine will next compete at the MIAA Championship Invitational, hosted by Calvin on February 25 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
