THUNDER TAKE HOME THREE GOLD’S AT BW INVITE

BEREA, Ohio - Trine University track and field teams took home three gold medals at the Baldwin-Wallace College Sparky Adams Invitational.

Freshman Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton Kellogg) took home the top time in the 400m with a run of 49.64, which is third-best in the MIAA this season. Junior Matt Burgess (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) picked up the bronze in the 5,000m run in a time of 15:23.49 while teammate freshman Sam Gray (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) finished fifth with a time of 15:56.52. In the 400m hurdles, junior Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) finished sixth in a time of 59.98.

 

The men’s 4x400m relay of Bourdo, Konzen, junior Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and freshman Randy Shaffer (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) finished second completing the race in a time of 3:26.66

In the field events, sophomores Nicholas Muir (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) and Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) shared the gold medal in the pole vault, as both cleared a height of 3.96m. Bourdo also picked up a fourth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.26m. Teammate senior Andrew Stein (Lindenhurt, Ill./Lakes Community) finished just behind in fifth with a distance of 6.15m. Stein also finished third in the triple jump clearing a distance of 12.82m. Shaffer also pulled out a fifth place performance in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.83m.

In the throwing events, junior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) turned in the top performance in the shot put with a throw of 14.64m to finish in eighth place.

On the women’s side, sophomore Danielle Shepherd (Carelton, Mich./Airport) turned in the top performance for the Thunder in the steeplechase, finishing fifth in a time of 14:18.36. Freshman Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) raced to a sixth place finish in the 800m in a time of 2:18.55 to break the school record set earlier in the season by Annalisa Krug.

In the field events, freshman Allison Everetts (Kokomo, Ind./Western) had the top performance of the day for Trine with a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a successful height of 2.58m. In the long jump, sophomore Katie Finch (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) finished seventh with a leap of 4.63m.

In the throwing events, freshman Erika Rockwell (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and junior  Jamie Meegan (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both finished ninth in their events. Rockwell threw a distance of 11.67m in the shot put while Meegan made a heave of 36.40m in the discus.

Trine will next compete at the two-day Ashland Alumni Invitational beginning on April 27.
