TRINE TRACKSTERS TAKE HOME GOLD AT ANDERSON

ANDERSON, Ind. - It was a great day for the Trine University track and field teams as they took home 10 gold medals at the Anderson University Easter Invitational. The men took home the team title while the women finished runner-up.

The men’s team took home the title, finishing 52 points ahead of host Anderson with 207 points. The Thunder took home three wins in the track events, led by the 4x400m relay team of juniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) along with freshman Randy Shaffer (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) and Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton Kellogg) who won the event in a time of 3:26.30.

Bourdo also took home a win in the 800m in a time of 1:59.89. Sophomore Michael Hammond (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) picked up a win for the Thunder in the 5,000m finishing in a time of 16:17.02.

In the field events, freshman Nate Grigsby (Royal Center, Ind./Pioneer) took home the win in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.83m. Sophomore Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) also picked up a win in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.85m.

On the women’s side, the Thunder were just 16 points behind host Anderson, as Trine finished with 149 points.

The ladies nearly swept all of the shorter races as they took home gold in the 200, 400 and 800m runs. Freshman Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) made it a clean sweep for Trine in the 800m, picking up win in a time of 2:23.55. In the 200m dash, freshman Aryona Ostrander (Angola, Ind./Angola) won in a time of 27.8 while junior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) took 400m in a time of 1:02.13.

The ladies also took home wins in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. In the 4x100m, the team of sophomores Rachael Bly (Auburn, Ind./Dekalb) and Katie Finch (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine), along with junior Kayla Criswell (Portage, Ind./Portage) and freshman Allison Everetts (Kokomo, Ind./Western) finished the spring in a time of 53.42. In the 4x400m relay, Anderson, Everetts and King combined with junior Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) to finish in a time of 4:12.96 to take the victory.

Trine will next compete as they MIAA Jamboree hosted by Albion College on April 14 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
