DON AND RILEY ZIMMER INDOOR CLASSIC RESULTS

NGOLA, IND.-- Trine's track and field teams combined for five first-place finishes in the Don and Riley Zimmer indoor classic, held Friday night at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.

 

The men's team picked up four first-place finishes, led by the 4 x 400 Meter Relay team. Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) and Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) won their respective events for the Thunder. Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) picked up the women's first-place finish. The meet was not scored on a team level.

 

Bourdo won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.72 seconds. It was Bourdo's second win the event this season.

 

Frey continued his strong performance in the Pole Vault, vaulting a height of 4.40 meters (14'-5"). Frey's vault topped his previous-best mark by .12 meters.

 

Bunting won the weight throw with athrow of 14.62 meters (47'-11.5"). Bunting has finished first in the weight throw in all three events the Thunder have competed in this winter. Teammate Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) finished just behind with a throw of 14.31 meters (46'-11"). Gilly also placed fourth in the Shot Put.

 

King came in first in the 800 Meter Run, turning in a time of 2:22.09. The win was King's first in the 800 this season. She had previously picked up a win in the 300 Meter Dash this season.

 

Other highlights on the men's side included a strong performance in the 5,000 Meter Run. Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) finished second, while fellow freshman Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) placed fourth.

 

Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandord) added a third-place finish in the 800 Meter.

 

The women's 4 x 400 Relay Team placed third. Kassandra Ellsworth (Saugerties, N.Y./Kingston) placed fifth in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 10.28 seconds.

 

The women also turned in a strong performance in the One-Mile Run. Ariel McCoy (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) placed eighth, just one-hudredth of a second better than Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) who placed ninth.

 

The ladies also got a pair of solid performances in throwing events. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) placed sixth in the Weight Throw with a thow of 12/15 meters (39'-10"). Sloan Davis (Charlotte, Mich./Olivet) placed seventh in the Shot Put, throwing a distance of 10.7 meters (33'-4").

 

The track and field teams return to action Friday, Feb. 7 at the Hillsdale Gina Relays.
