THUNDER OPEN INDOOR SEASON AT TIFFIN

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Trine University track and field team opened their indoor season at the Tiffin University Alumni Grand Opener. The men’s team finished fifth with 40 points while the women were fourth with 33 points as Tiffin won both team titles.

On the men’s side, All-MIAA senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) led the team with a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.70 meters. Stutzman also finished eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.62m. In other field events, fellow senior Andrew Stein (Lindenhurt, Ill./Lake Community) finished seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump with distances of 12.04m and 5.87m respectively.

On the track, another All-MIAA performer in sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) turned in the top performance, placing second in the 400m with a time of 50.92. Also in the 400m, freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) came across the line in a time of 53.04 to place fifth. In the 200m, junior Lincoln Frey (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) placed fourth with a time of 24.24, while freshman Jason Wilder (Petersburg, Mich./Summerfield) came in seventh in a time of 25.07.

The 4x400m relay of Bourdo, Fimreite, Frey and senior Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) placed fourth with a time of 3:31.57. In the 4x200m relay, Wilder along with senior Cameron Lounsbury (Willliamstown, Mich./Williamstown) and freshmen John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) finished with a time of 1:38.05 to finish in fifth place.

The women’s team turned in two top finishes on the night in the pole vault and the 4x200m relay. Junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) won the pole vault clearing a height of 2.75m. The relay team of Wineman along with junior Rachael Bly (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and a pair of freshmen in Hunter Johnson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake) and Kassandra Ellsworth (Saugerties, N.Y./Kingston) won the event in a time of 1:56.79.

In the high jump, sophomore Hanna Vollmer (Sherwood, Ohio/Fairview) finished fourth clearing a height of 1.33m. The Thunder also took home a pair of fifth place finishes in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles. Bly completed to 60m sprint in a time of 8.62 while Ellsworth cleared the hurdles with a time of 10.57.

Trine will return home to host their first home meet of the season as they host the Trine Open on December 7 at 4:00 p.m.
