Thunder Men Place Second at Calvin Indoor Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.—Trine's men's track and field team placed second in the Calvin Indoor Championships, while the women's team placed eighth in the event held Saturday at Sturris Track.

Paced by four first-place finishes, the men's team earned 104.5 points in the meet. Host-Calvin College finished first with 180 points. The Trine women earned 25 points in the meet. Calvin also won the women's championship with 203.5 points. Competitors from eight schools competed in the Calvin Indoor Championships. The top eight finishers in each event earned points.

Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) set a new school-record in the 800 Meter Run to win the event. King ran a time of 2:14.95 to break her own school-record and turn in the women's only first-place performance of the night.

The Trine men dominated the Weight Throw event, as Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) and Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) took home the top three spots in the event. Bunting led the way with a throw of 51'-4.5". Gilly added a fifth-place finish in the Shot Put, while Derek Scott (Niles, Mich./Niles) placed eighth.

Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) won the 400 Meter Dash, while teammate Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) placed third. Bourdo's time was 48.97 seconds. He also notched a third-place finish in the 200 Meter Dash.

Bourdo and Fimreite made up half of the 4 x- 400 Meter Relay Team that finished first. They combined with James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) and Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Leurs) to run a time of 3:25.61. Gregory added a third-place finish in the 60 Meter Hurdles and finished sixth in the 400 Meter Dash.

Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) notched Trine's final first-place finish in the event by winning the Pole Vault. Frey vaulted a height of 14'-7.75". John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) tied for third in the same event.

Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) added a fourth-place finish in the 800 Meter Run. Logan Lindsley (Battle Creek, Mich./Quincy) placed eighth in the Long Jump.

The 4 x 800 Relay Team, made up of Colin Thompson (Marshall, Mich./Marshall), Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind./West Noble), Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) and Garrett Benedict (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central), placed fifth. Ganger notched a sixth-place finish in the 3000 Meter Run.

The women's 4 x 800 Relay Team turned in a strong performance, placing third. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne), Ariel McCoy (Garrett, Ind./Garrett), Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) and King combined to run a time of 10:41.52. Ortiz also placed seventh in the 5000 Meter Run.

Kadie Kachmaryk (Standish, Mich./Au-Gres Sims) placed fifth in the Pole Vault, vaulting a height of 8'-10.25". Kayla Johnson (Bronson, Mich./Bronson) and Jennifer Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) rounded out Trine's point-earners, placing seventh and eighth in the Weight Throw.
