Men's Track Performers Shine at Hillsdale Gina Relays

HILLSDALE, MICH.-- The Trine men's track and field team had several successful performances against competitors from higher divisions in the Hillsdale Gina Relays this weekend.

Highlighting the Thunder performance was Tyler Bourdo's second-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 48.24 seconds. Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) continues to prove himself against competitors from higher levels of competition, as the junior finished ahead of numerous Division I runners. He finished one-hundredth of a second behind champion Malik Vasquez of Central Michigan.

Pole Vaulters Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) and John Daniel also had a strong day for Trine. Frey vaulted 15 feet, five inches which led the Open portion of the event. Had he competed in the Championships, Frey's vault would have been good for sixth. He was the only Division III performer to top 15 feet. Daniel narrowly missed being the second, vaulting a height of 14 feet, 11 inches.

Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) turned in the other top 10 finish for the Thunder. Bagwell placed eighth in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 154 feet, three inches. He was the best Division III performer in the event, not far off the pace of the Division I throwers in the event.

Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) also finished in the top half of performers in the Hammer Throw with a heave of 149 feet, 11 inches. That throw was good enough for 12th.

Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) finished 17th in the Open portion of the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 51.80 seconds. Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) placed 17th out of over 70 performers in the Open portion of the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:56.84.

Performers from all NCAA Divisions, NAIA and junior college institutions competed in the event.

Next up for Trine is the MIAA Field Day, which will be held May 1-2.
