TRACKSTERS TAKE THREE GOLD’S AT MIAA JAMBOREE

OLIVET, Mich. - The Trine University track and field team picked up three first place finishes at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet College. The men’s team finished sixth with 425 points while the women were seventh with 202 points.

Calvin won both the men’s and women’s team titles.

The men’s team was led by sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) who won the 400m and anchored the 4x400m relay that also took gold. Bourdo won the 400m by over a second in a time of 48.77. Bourdo was joined by seniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) along with freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) as they trounced the competition by four seconds with a time of 3:19.70. Linder and Fimreite also had top-5 performances in the 400m placing third and fifth with times of 50.46 and 50.93 respectively. The 4x100m relay team of senior JaVontae Hence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), junior Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) and freshmen John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll)  and James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) took third with a time of 44.00.

In the field events, the Thunder dominated the hammer throw as they nearly swept the podium taking first, second and fourth. Sophomore Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) took home the top spot with a throw of 147-04. Senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) claimed second with a distance of 140-03 and freshman Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) took fourth with a throw of 134-04. Stutzman also claimed bronze in the shot put with a throw of 48-01.75 while Bunting was sixth with a throw of 41-08.00. In the discus, Bunting also took sixth with a distance of 126-10.

Frey would also take bronze in the pole vault clearing a height of 13-03.50.

On the women’s side, Thunder were led by senior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior) who took home a pair of top-5 finishes. Stahl took silver in the hammer with a throw of 131-10 and fifth in the shot with a heave of 32-11.75.

The 4x400m relay of seniors Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) and Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield), sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) and freshman Kassi Ellsworth (Saugerties, N.Y./Kingston) took fourth in a time of 4:14.54. Anderson would also have Trine’s top individual finish on the track, placing eighth in the 400m with a time of 1:03.77.

Trine will return to the track on April 20th at the Spartan Classic hosted by Manchester University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
